GMC Sierra 2500 Compared
Are you an Independence, MO, driver who needs a seriously capable vehicle? If so, the new GMC Sierra 2500 HD is likely the heavy-duty truck for you. Offering old-school ruggedness mixed with modern comfort, the new Sierra 2500 is built to get the job done. But how does it compare to rivals like the Ford F-250 and Ram 2500?
What Is the GMC Sierra 2500?
The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is a highly capable and luxurious heavy-duty pickup truck that competes against rivals like the Ford F-250 Super Duty and Ram 2500. While all three trucks offer impressive towing and hauling capabilities, the Sierra 2500 HD stands out with its premium features, refined ride, and advanced technology. Let's take a closer look at how the Sierra 2500 HD compares to its rivals.
Power and Performance
The Sierra 2500 HD offers two powerful engine options - a 6.6-liter gasoline V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque and a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 with an impressive 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. This allows the Sierra to tow up to 18,500 pounds.
In comparison, the F-250's most powerful engine, the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8, makes 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet, allowing it to tow up to 22,000 pounds. The Ram 2500's 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-six produces up to 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet.
While the F-250 has a slight edge in maximum towing, the Sierra 2500 HD's Duramax diesel provides ample power for most heavy-duty needs. Plus, the Sierra's 10-speed Allison transmission is praised for its smooth shifting.
Ride and Handling
One area where the Sierra 2500 HD really shines is its refined ride and handling. Despite its large size, the Sierra provides a surprisingly compliant and comfortable ride, even when unladen. Steering is light but precise.
The F-250 and Ram 2500 are also fairly comfortable for heavy-duty trucks, but some reviewers find their unladen rides to be stiffer and bouncier than the Sierra's. The Sierra's Denali trim in particular offers a plush, luxury car-like experience.
Interior and Technology
The Sierra 2500 HD boasts one of the nicest interiors in its class, especially in the top Denali Ultimate trim which features premium leather, open-pore wood trim, and a large 13.4-inch touchscreen. Even lower trims are well-appointed with plenty of features.
The F-250 has a spacious and functional interior with available tech, like a 12-inch screen and massaging seats, but it's not quite as luxurious as the Sierra. The Ram 2500 offers an upscale cabin on higher trims, but its 12-inch screen looks a bit dated compared to the Sierra's.
All three trucks offer helpful trailering tech and cameras, but the Sierra's transparent trailer view is an innovative standout feature. The Sierra also comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
